Fraxel Laser for Acne Scar Treatment

Treatment of acne scars requires both the removal of damaged skin and the production of new collagen to improve the area's tone and texture. Unlike other procedures, Fraxel treatment removes damaged skin on the surface and reaches deep into the skin to stimulate collagen remodeling. Fraxel treatment improves the elasticity, texture and tone of your damaged skin while keeping your healthy tissue intact.

Oral Acne Treatment

For patients with moderate to severe acne, antibiotics taken orally have been a common form of treatment for years. Oral antibiotics work to reduce and slow down bacteria growth which decreases inflammation. Treatment with oral antibiotics usually begins with a higher dosage, which is reduced as acne resolves. Usually, antibiotics are prescribed for six months or less. Oral contraceptives have been shown to effectively clear acne in women by suppressing the overactive sebaceous glands and can be used as long-term acne therapy.

Topical Treatment

Many topical medications such as creams, gels, and lotions are used to treat acne. Topical antibiotics work by killing acne bacteria from the outside in. This not only helps reduce the small infections in the pores, but also indirectly keeps the pores open. All topical antibiotics must be prescribed by a health care provider which is often needed to treat moderate acne. Before topical treatments are prescribed, your doctor will carry out a visual inspection of your face, in order to make a diagnosis in terms of acne type and severity.
